I am so screwed. Sep 25, 2009 - 02:44 PM

While building my review car for this month, I gloated at just how convenient self-tapping screws are. Next to the toaster oven, self tapping screws pretty much are the most fantastic things in the world. The screw drives itself into plastic parts with each effortless turn and holds exceptionally well at that. This then led me to think about all the kits that use machine screws to thread into plastic parts. Why would anyone want to subject themselves to this? Why would you choose to turn a 15mm machine screw 18 bajillion times into a plastic part, when a self tapping screw would only take 7? Ok, maybe 8. In addition to that, the teeth on self tapping screws are bigger, which dig deeper into the plastic, not to mention they also leave more material between the teeth so the plastic is less likely to strip. Machine screws have tiny little teeth. Tiny, gnawing, annoying, little teeth that demand far more physical labor and attention than is ever necessary. They’re like tiny, whiney little ad guy colonoscopy patients insisting on every single ounce of attention from the editorial staff when they have a cough. No one likes that.
So, hats off to you, self-tapping screw. Thank you for being you. And thank you for making my life worth living.

They should call it the germ instead of the gym. Sep 08, 2009 - 09:16 PM

Coming home from the gym, I felt the urge to do some research. Now, having done that, I am thoroughly grossed out. Please excuse me while I disinfect my entire body with a blow torch.

Gross!
Gross!!
Yuck!!

Hi Def? Most def! Aug 11, 2009 - 04:21 PM

We’ve officially stepped out of 720 HD and into full 1080 HD video. You tech savvy people already know what that means. That’s right, sharper images of the cars in our action videos, clearer images in our how-to videos, and more detailed images of our faces!!
Hmmm, on second thought, maybe we’ll just stick to cell phone cameras for our close ups and leave the HD for everything else. Yeah, better.

I love this hobby. Jul 10, 2009 - 03:15 PM

At what point does a hobby become an obsession? I see some of my friends that have just gotten into this hobby, and even people I meet, get so gun-ho and so enthusiastic about the hobby that it’s almost frightening. In a good way though. At the same time, it makes me think about what I was like when I first got into the hobby many, many moons ago. In fact, I clearly remember buying parts for my cars instead of buying food. I remember studying suspension theory during math class instead of the actual topic, which is probably why I failed that class. And I remember getting a job at the hobby shop just so I can get discounts on parts. I look back now and I think to myself, did other people do this? More than a decade later, I’m still in this hobby, although now I’m a little more responsible with my money (sort of), I still get giddy when I hear about new stuff and whatever cool parts and accessories come out. But honestly, I think what I had then, or maybe still have, is a legitimate obsession with RC. I don’t ever want to get away from it. Then again, can you blame me?
